My Artist Statement

For most of my youth, and now, I have had a love of taking photos. Until a couple of months ago, I had no idea what I was doing with cameras. I just loved to take pictures. But when I heard about the photography class at Brebeuf, I knew all of this would change for the better. I have grown in a multitude of areas of photography. Which includes being able to look at a location and say, "Hey, this would be great for the rule of thirds," or "This would work great for leading lines."  Overall, the photos I have included in my portfolio, I believe, are the best demonstration of how my photography has progressed over the semester. Since taking this class, I have learned that in photography, one does not have to know all the complex parts of a camera or have the best equipment; all one needs is a reasonably good camera, a grasp of the knowledge of a camera, such as shutter speed and ISO, and an intuitive eye for composition. From there, many excellent photos can be produced.

Honorable Shots

Whats up there?: Contrast

While I was outside shooting with my class, I looked up and saw the perfect photo opportunity. This was an excellent photo opportunity because almost no preparation was needed. All I had to do was look up and zoom in just enough to capture these trees. To me, this is an excellent shot because it is so visually pleasing, and I knew once that camera took the shot, I would be happy. And happy I was.

What's Your name?: Shutter

While struggling to figure out what shot to take for my long exposure assignment and feeling hopeless, that is when the idea struck me. A phone flashlight, a camera, and some creativity helped me produce one of my favorite photos of the semester.

Don't Spill: Perspectives

When I was on a cruise with my family I said "Dad come here!" I asked him to pour a Coke and I would shoot from below the glass. I am thrilled he did not spill any because it was pretty windy on the balcony of a cruise ship while sailing. It would not be suitable for me or the camera if Coke were to spill, especially for the camera.

Quiet Please: Aperture

I started playing tennis about 4 years ago, and since then, I have developed a love for the game. This photo is of my school's tennis courts. While this is not the most complex photo and could have used a tennis ball or racket to improve the composition, it has a lot of sentimental value to me.
